Exporting from the UK to the EU
With Brexit in the rearview mirror and a trade deal yet to be agreed with the European Union (although agreed in principle), we are yet to know what it all means for exports and the freight business, but hopefully, there will be an announcement soon. Until that agreement is reached, exports from the UK to the EU will be treated like international exports and incur customs paperwork, tariffs, and duties. Each destination country will follow unique regulations to consider, so it is essential to know what these are before sending your consignment of goods.

Check the Regulations of Your Destination Country
You will need to know what your product is made of and any restrictions for your destination country to get the correct information about exporting it. Use the handy government tool here for more details on your destination country.
Get an EORI Number
You need an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification Number) for the UK side, and you may need one from your destination country. If you do not have one organised, you might face delays and increased costs when exporting goods. For more information, visit the government advisory page.

Decide Who Will Make the Export Declaration
You can either hire an agent for your import declarations or do it yourself. Your agent must be established in the UK as the goods country of origin. If you are seeking an agent for your customs documents, we can help.
Check Tax and Duty Rates
You will have to pay customs duties and VAT on your export based on where the goods are going. Tariffs will either be preferential or non-preferential depending on whether the destination has a trade agreement with the UK or not.
Get the Correct Licence for Your Goods
Find out if there are any special licenses or certificates you will need depending on the goods you export. Check on the government site here.
